AN ASTONISHINGLY high temperature of 35.1C (95F) was recorded in Reigate this afternoon at 5pm.
This makes it the hottest day for nine years since 35.5C (96F) was measured at Charlwood weather station in the blisteringly hot July of 2006.
The reading today is similar to those measured on the hottest days of the memorable summer of 1976 when the Government advised people to share a bath with friends to save water and fires ravaged the Surrey countryside.
