A Merstham homeowner was moments away from losing his roof today after it was struck by lightning.The home, on the corner of Taynton Drive and Sutton Gardens, was hit shortly before 5.50pm, during bad weather that passed over East Surrey.Firefighters from Reigate, Salfords and Godstone all attended the incident but managed to dampen down and contain a small fire caused by the lightning strike before it destroyed the property's roof.Neighbour Anne Hardy, who lives in nearby road Sutton Gardens,...
